Call Before You Dig

Call Before You Dig

Call before you dig. It’s the law!

A leading cause of pipeline incidents is third-party excavation damage to a pipeline, its protective casing and/or buried utility lines.

Here’s what you can do to help prevent these incidents from occurring.

Planning to excavate? Always contact your local One-Call Center or 811 before engaging in any excavation, construction, farming or digging. This includes activities such as: digging, trenching, blasting, boring, tunneling, backfilling or any other digging activity; and even relatively minor excavation activities like landscaping or fencing.

Most states required 48-hour notice to the One-Call Center before engaging in any excavation, construction, farming or digging. This allows the operators to make their pipelines and utilities at the proposed digging site.

Feel free to start the process by calling, for free, to 811; your call will be routed to your local One-Call Center.

Unusual activity? If you notice any unusual or suspicious activities or unauthorized excavations taking place within or near the pipeline right-of-way or pipeline facility, please call the pipeline operator at the number listed on the pipeline marker; or call 811.
